Top 10 reasons for Living in St. Paul

Here are the top ten reasons for living in St. Paul  submitted by readers of this blog:

The Number one Reason for Living in St. Paul:
1.  Because that’s where my condo is.

More reasons
2.  It’s a beautiful city with tons of neighborhood parks designed for community use, not just children.  There are whole city blocks downtown and along the river designed for eating lunch, watching birds, relaxing.
3.  It’s a mature city with lots of mature trees.
4.  The Mississippi River.
5.  The St. Paul Saints, tail gating, Super Fan, Mudonna, "peanuts, popcorn and cracker jacks", "Train", Sergio, the slider toss, etc.  If you don’t know what these things are, you haven’t been to the Saints games.  It’s baseball played the way baseball used to be!
6.  The arts: the Ordway, the Art Crawl, McNally Smith School of Music, and on and on.
7.  The Vulcans before they got stupid.
8.  The Winter Carnival.  Where else can you dance in an ice palace when it’s 10 degrees fahrenheit?

1. You can do stuff in Minneapolis, but you don’t have to live there!
2. Handy to the St. Croix Valley.
3. Shepard Road, one of the loveliest drives in the metro.

The following is not in any order…
1. The Place of my birth
2. The Hill reference library
3. The Cathedral-because of its pipe organ
4. The Capitol building
5. The Ordway Theatre
6. The Science museum
7. Metro State University
8. The Farmers’ Market
9. Harriet Island
10 Holman Field

1. OK, how about the Saint Paul Inline Marathon?

To these I add some really compelling reasons that I can’t believe no one else mentioned:

1. We are the saintly city unlike our evil twin on the other side of the river.
2. St. Paulites are smart, our streets do not need to be alphabetized, we can still find our way.

3.  Our sidewalks roll up so easily that we can get it done by 7:00 most nights.
4. Nothing is happening here and that’s the way we like it.
5.  Grand Avenue
6.  The state fair, held in St. Paul
7.  Downtown parking, we still have parking.
8.  The street lights in the historic preservation districts.
9.  The alleys near Summit Avenue up on the hill.
10. Highland Park – the neighborhood that even people who live in Minneapolis have heard of.

I know that there are more than 10 reasons and a top ten list should be a list of ten.  When I started this last week I did mention that this is my first top 10 list and that I am doing it because everyone else is and I was feeling left out.  Be patient, I’ll get the hang of it eventually.
