This sign is posted at the North end of the Smith Avenue High bridge in St. Paul. When traveling from south to north drivers are going downhill.
I suspect I could turn off my engine, put my car in neutral and ride my brake from the top of the bridge to the bottom and would still hit a speed of more than 30 miles an hour by the time I got to this sign. I have never tested this theory because I am too afraid of being run over by someone who is going 60 miles an hour.
Now we have a permanent sign that records our speed that will serve as a constant reminder to all of us that we are criminals. I have developed a technique that allows me to drop my speed to 30 by the time I get to the end of the bridge but it has taken years of practice. My husband swears by putting his car in 4th gear and down shifting to 3rd. If you have a success story to share please feel free to comment.
