It is Friday and Fridays are for fun. If you are a regular reader of this blog or if you know me from Flickr or are familiar with my photo blog you know that I take pictures of valves. I take pictures of many things but mostly landscapes and architectural type photographs. I think that is why people ask me to take wedding pictures or maybe they ask because I have a camera.
Trust me if you are looking for a wedding photographer I am not it but there are like a zillion of them to choose from in fact there may be more wedding photographers than there are Realtors.
This valve is special because it is rusty and there is water in the background. I call it “valve by the bay”, or valve #17. I found it right at the edge of the water by the San Francisco Bay.
Love all your photos and, being formerly a construction manager, especially those of valves. This valve in particular is a fire hydrant. You may know that the San Francisco Fire Department is renown since the rebuilding after the Great Quake for its fire fighting prowess in a city full of wood frame buildings cheek by jowl tight with each other. Coit Tower atop Telegraph Hill is a monument to fire fighters.
Fire hydrants are the best type of valve to photograph. They really are urban hardware that we take for granted. I don’t think most people see them at all.
